2024 Make A Play Workshop:

What is Make-A-Play?

Over the course of two weeks, youth workshop participants (ages 6 - 12yrs old) program will create a a play from start to finish and produce one final Performance on the stage of Phoenicia Playhouse. This type of work is a mixture of devised and applied theater where the student actors learn interactive storytelling and physical literacy. It is an extraordinary effort by the Participants involved, and works on the immensely important life skills of collaboration, problem solving, compromise and learning all the aspects of how to create a multimedia production from start to finish. This type of program is designed to give a voice to what the students are currently learning in school and how they feel and see the world around them. We build our play off of their original thoughts, characters and dialogue which then gets turned into a script and performed for their community. This type of story building leads us down many paths of possible outcomes, but together the student actors use practical and creative ways to grow their story and production together. This youth community program helps to promote social emotional learning, creative problem solving, and group collaboration.
