About the Artists:
Tom Abbott has been a regular on the New York City jazz scene since 2000, after relocating from Salt Lake City, UT. He has studied at the New School For Jazz and Contemporary Music as well as privately with multi-instrumentalist Tim Price and teaching maven Ray Smith. Performance highlights include the BBC children's show 3rd and Bird, The Brooklyn Symphony Orchestra, Post-Modern Jukebox, the immersive theater piece Sleep No More, Baby Soda Jazz Band, the Jazz Age Lawn Party and The Drunkard's Wife performing with the National Theater of the United States of America.
Currently Tom has an ongoing Thursday residency at Birdland Jazz Club in Manhattan with the High Society New Orleans Jazz Band.
Matt Munisteri - Guitarist, singer, and songwriter - is a Brooklyn native who, as a child, was almost assuredly the only bluegrass banjo player on his block. As one of “New York’s finest vintage guitar stylists” (Downbeat Magazine), and a jazz musician with a reputation as a genuine virtuoso of American guitar styles, Matt routinely works with a wide range of artists, from folk and Bluegrass, to mainstream jazz and even the avant-garde.
In addition to his own ensembles and solo projects, he’s worked regularly with Catherine Russell (as guitarist and music director), violinist Mark O’Connor, Steven Bernstein’s Millennial Territory Orchestra, Jon-Erik Kellso and The EarRegulars. Other notables include Bill Frisell, Julian Lage, Greg Cohen, Kenny Davern, Andy Stein, Matt Glaser, Vince Giordano, Jenny Scheinman, Rachelle Garniez, Evan Christopher, Bob Wilbur, Bucky Pizzarelli, Dick Hyman, Frank Vignola, and Whit Smith, Loudon Wainwright, Holly Cole, Robbie Fulks, Madeline Peyroux, “Little” Jimmy Scott, and Geoff Muldaur.
Matt’s played (and occasionally sung) on many movie soundtracks, television shows, and commercials, and appears on over 100 CDs. His own compositions have been compared to Mose Allison and Randy Newman, in that they reflect a life-long immersion in the history of American Popular song, and highlight the links between rural and urban, long-gone and contemporary. Matt’s played on several Grammy winning records and has been featured in Acoustic Guitar, Downbeat, and The Fretboard Journal.
Matt is the founder and artistic director of Red Hot Strings, a multi-strings camp that is hosted by Centrum in Port Townsend WA, and has created several online guitar classes for Peghead Nation, including the influential “Roots of Jazz Guitar”. He’s taught master classes at Juilliard, been a guest artist at The Berklee School of Music, and taught at Django in June, and Bryan Sutton’s Blueridge Guitar Camp. Matt’s released three CDs as a leader. His CD “Love Story” was number two on Amazon’s list of the top ten jazz CDs of 2003. His latest CD "Still Runnin' 'Round in the Wilderness; The Lost Music Of Willard Robison Vol I" has been the subject of several features on NPR broadcasts. He’s also released a twin guitar disc with Whit Smith (of The Hot Club of Cowtown), and three CDs with The EarRegulars.
Sean Cronin - multi-instrumentalist and songwriter - is a former Vancouverite who now hails from Catskill, NY. He has played bass with Very Good, Matt Munisteri, and The Lovestruck Balladeers.
“Cronin has lived a musical life, beginning piano and recorder lessons at age four, eventually adding guitar, ukulele, sax, drums, and bass. After testing out punk, folk, country, and pop in high school, Cronin settled on acoustic jazz bass as his main pursuit… One of Vancouver’s most successful jazz bassists, Cronin [has played] with Denzal Sinclaire, Mike Allen, Brad Turner, Phil Dwyer, and many other well-known musicians.”
